I been really waiting for this day. Few years ago, all the cell phone companies offered the same exact plan for same exact price and no difference. As a consumer you are totally locked for 2 years and when you phone crashes or dies, you don’t have any other choice than buying a new phone again with them for full price or extend your contract again. No other choices…
T Mobile took the bold decision by separating itself from the pack by offering no contract plans after it was ditched by AT&T merger plans. They want to come back and come back big time by making a difference. It was initially touted as a media core plan and thought it won’t click with the consumer. But looks like consumer did start to notice after a bit and slowly jumped on the new bandwagon as they liked to have an option to change phones whenever they wanted given an option to pay for the phone monthly. Other phone companies watched them from sidelines, I still remember that they talked about T Mobile phone new no-contract plans is not a magic and won’t work out. Now after few months, they all are offering no-contract plans and trying to compete each other. It’s a good thing for consumers…
I like it, really like it. Verizon offered higher data plans for same price a month or two ago. Few days ago, AT&T announced a major upgrades to his plan both for new and old customers. I am with AT&T for long and so far no major complains. They even gave me Micro cell for free to get good reception at home. They are now offering 2GB plan for just $25 for no-contract customers and $40 for contract customers. If you are individual and want to have a plan, you pay $40/line(450 mins only) + $25/2 GB plan comes with unlimited text & call and current customers are allowed to change as well. I used to have $40 + $20(200MB Data) + $15 unlimited text, paid $75/month as of this morning, just chatted this morning with rep and changed my plan to $40 + $25/2GB plan not $40 since my contract is expiring soon and they want me to stay. Now I only pay $65 for unlimited talk, text and 2GB data. That’s savings of $10/month + good plan with unlimited talk and text and upgrade to my previous data plan. I still have to wait and see my next bill.
I checked about adding a line to my wife and they are giving $100 credit towards your bill if you start a new line and stayed with them for 45 days. For new line, you will pay $40 if you buy phone with them or $25 for no phone/contract. For me, it will be $105 ($40+$25+$40) for Iphone 5s or Samsumg phone compared to $80($50+$30)+$27+$27 device charge with T Mobile on no contract plan. Except the no contract freedom, you will pay more every month. It is good to have some competition which helps consumers like us to pick and choose the right plan for right price and save money.
